Orvid Oliver Stimpson, 67, a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend transitioned from this life on March 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with an ongoing illness.
Orvid held a deep love and devotion for his family. Family vacations were particularly special to him, and he had a particular fondness for cruises, where he could enjoy the beauty of the sea and islands. Orvid was a person whose kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He had a remarkable ability to connect with others. His willingness to help those in need made him a beloved figure in his community, and his circle of friends was vast.
Born on August 9, 1957, in Kingston Jamaica, to Lynval (predeceased) and Lorrice Stimpson, later moved to London, England, at an early age where he soon established himself as a standout student athlete and a well-rounded young man. After his family later relocated back to Jamaica, Orvid attended high school and soon developed into a nationally renowned soccer and track and field student athlete.
After high school, he moved to the United States, joined the military, and met and married his wife, Mattie. Establishing early residency in Northern New Jersey, Orvid worked in banking and soon rapidly moved up in ascending leadership positions. He, subsequently, moved to Virginia Beach, VA, where he continued his career in banking becoming Vice President, while working as a volunteer auxiliary police officer in the adjacent City of Chesapeake. After an exemplary 30 plus year career in banking, he retired and became a full-time commissioned Police Officer before becoming a Deputy Sheriff in Chesapeake, where he worked diligently and honorably for 13 years before succumbing to his illness.
Orvid is survived by his wife, Mattie Stimpson, of almost 44 years; sons: Orvid Stimpson, Jr. (Joey), Kalvin Stimpson, and Kevin (Devona) Stimpson; mother: Lorrice Stimpson; siblings: Lorna Stimpson, Leon Stimpson, Donna Stimpson-Nedd, Anthony Stimpson, and Deborah Stimpson-Pringle, nieces, nephews and many loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Orvid on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11am in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Interment will take place at Colonial Grove Memorial Park, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
