Elizabeth “Betty” Wainwright Jackson, 91, a 70-year resident of Newport News and Hampton, VA, went to her heavenly home on March 10, 2025, after a short illness.
Betty was born in Poquoson and raised in Portsmouth, VA. After High School, she attended the Riverside School of Nursing in Newport News and became a Registered Nurse. While in nursing school she met her future husband with whom she enjoyed a 49-year marriage; raising four children and opening their home to those who were in need.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Eva Wainwright; her husband, Harold; her four siblings and great-nephew, AJ Wilcox.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Sherry and David Legge of Naples, FL, Karen and Calvin “Bogie” Boger of Hampton, VA, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Jay “Danny” and Janet Jackson of Lorton, VA, and Holly and Clayton Campbell of Newport News, VA, 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren whom she loved spending time with. She is also survived by two unofficially adopted children, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) William “Bill” Keeton, Ph.D., and family of Australia, and Lisa Wilcox and family of Arden, NC.
During her nursing career, which spanned 40 years, Betty worked as a hospital Nurse and Assistant Nursing Administrator at Riverside Hospital, a Nursing Instructor for Sentara at the local college, and concluded her career following 14 years as the Night Duty Supervisor at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
She is best remembered for her dedication to her husband and family, and her many long and lasting friendships. She balanced her passion for her nursing career with her passion for raising her four children and still helped many others who needed her loving attention.
Mom, we are already missing your loving spirit, and embrace and know that you now have peace with GOD for all of eternity.
