On Monday, September 16, 2024, Myrtle Chapman peacefully answered the Master’s call. Her life’s journey began on April 14, 1935, as the daughter of the late Ernest and Rosa Harris Tyler.
At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life, was baptized and joined Chickahominy Baptist Church. She served faithfully as a member of the Hospitality Committee preparing and serving during events at the church and loved greeting everyone as they arrived.
Myrtle graduated from Bruton Heights School. She later was employed with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for more than thirty years before retiring.
On January 11, 1964, Myrtle was united in holy matrimony to James Chapman. This union was blessed with over sixty years of precious memories.
Myrtle had a quiet and kind spirit. She loved to shop, watch soap operas, and spend time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Curetta Tyler, Mary L. Tyler, Rosezillia Shackleford, Irmalene Tyler, and Maretha Greenhow; her brothers, William Earl Tyler, John Tyler, and Leroy Tyler.
She leaves fond memories with her husband, James Chapman; daughter, Deneen Skinner (Stanley); son, James L. Chapman; grandchildren, Rayvon Chapman, Diamond Chapman, Jordan Chapman, and Makiyah Ellis-Ingram; sister, Sarah E. Tyler; brother, Charles Tyler; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Walston and Minge Berkeley; brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Christine Meekins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
