Flanders Moseley O’Neal, 90, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed into the loving arms of his savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on September 20, 2024.
Flanders served in the United States Army for two years in the Korean War. He graduated from VCU, formerly RPI, where he met his wife, Dorothy in a history class. He was a commercial real estate broker for 44 years and financed tax exempt bonds for retirement communities and non-profit clients. He built several townhouse communities in his home area. He also worked for many years developing Section 8 housing for HUD. He started his career as a city manager for Ridgway, PA. He attended University of North Carolina and Wharton Business School for graduate work.
Flanders was a member and deacon of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church and later a member of Family Worship Center of the Assemblies of God for 36 years, where he served as an elder, a deacon, and taught Sunday School and Wednesday night bible study. Flanders loved and served his savior, Jesus Christ. While staying in VA, he attended his son-in-law’s church, Apostles Lutheran.
He was born June 11,1934 in Roanoke Rapids, NC, the son of the late Joseph Henry O’Neal and Harriet Irene Cannon O’Neal.
He is predeceased by his three brothers, Graham, Howard and Linwood O’Neal. He is also predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Diradour O’Neal.
He is survived by his daughter Arden A. (husband Rev. David) Peterson of Chesapeake, VA, his daughter Lyn F. O’Neal of Carlisle, PA, his grandsons: David Peterson, Luke (wife,Morgan) Peterson, Matthew Peterson, Stephen Peterson, one great-grandson, Simon Peterson and one great- granddaughter, Elizabeth Peterson. He is also survived by his nieces Stephanie and Nancy O’Neal and nephew Dean O’Neal, his sister-in-law Virginia Diradour and brother-in-law, Martin H. Diradour Jr., and niece-in-law Elizabeth (husband Daniel) Gutzmer and their children, Zach and Sarah.
