On Thursday, September 12, 2024 Fenner Vernon “Sammy, Sam” Woolard, 94, was escorted by angels to meet his maker and join his first wife Miriam and many others that preceded him going to heaven. He was surrounded by family as he stepped from this life into glory.

He was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, father in law, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to so many. He was one of 9 children raised by his parents on their farm in Washington, NC. He married Miriam in 1948, they later moved to VA where he built a floor covering business with her. He worked hard and built relationships with customers that became friends. He was known as trustworthy and a man of integrity that loved God, family and friends.

He came to know Christ through his best buddy Bill O’Brien and other friends. He served God and his church for many years. He became a leader and an elder at Kempsville Christian Church and served many years at Avalon Church of Christ.

After Miriam, his wife of 54 years, passed away in 2002 he was introduced to MariBeth Dagenhart in 2005 and they were married a few months later. They enjoyed life together for 19 years. He was blessed to have two wonderful wives in his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife MariBeth Dagenhart Woolard and her daughter Patrice Robinson (Gary), his siblings Phil (Doodlebug) Woolard, Swimpy (Jean) Woolard and Sue Woolard, his children Terry Woolard Cordon (Larry) and Hal Woolard (Debbie), nephew Buster Woolard, grandchildren Shannon Cordon Manning (George), Brandon Cordon, Amber Woolard Colclasure (Stephen) and Jason Woolard (Sarah), great grandchildren Zion Cordon, Emily Colclasure, Blake Colclasure, Lucy Colclasure, Benjamin Colclasure and Zane Woolard. Their dog Dream loved her Daddy too.

Son Vernon Brad Woolard and grandson Jeromie Woolard also preceded him in death.

The family wishes to acknowledge special in-home care provided by Donna “The Boss” Washburn.

We look forward to seeing him in heaven and have peace knowing he is well and dancing on streets of gold.

There will be a Celebration of Life 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 at Avalon Church of Christ, 844 Woodstock Road, Virginia Beach, VA. The family will be hosting Sammy’s favorite desserts for family and friends afterwards in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to Mid- Atlantic Christian University. It held a special place in his heart as 4 of his grandchildren attended there. MACUs mission is to impact the world by transforming ordinary people into extraordinary Christian leaders.
