On February 3, 1944, James and Helen Wallace became the proud parents of their fourth child, Lawrence Wallace. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 31, 2024
Lawrence attended Bruton Heights High School in Williamsburg. Before leaving Williamsburg and moving to Newark, New Jersey, Lawrence accepted Christ at his home church Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Upon arriving in Newark, he was given the nickname “Larry” and settled in quickly by finding a job at Hatfield Wire, where he was employed for nine years.
In continuing his service to the Lord, Larry became one of the founders of Good Neighbor Baptist Church. He also served on the Trustee Board and lifted his voice in the male choir while serving under Pastor Malachi Rountree.
On August 30, 1984, Larry married Christine Garland. The happy couple relocated to Marietta, GA, where they lived for seventeen years.
In Marietta, Larry was ordained a Deacon under the leadership of Pastor Ed Rhodes at Cole Street Missionary Baptist Church. His walk with the Lord became closer under the leadership and guidance of Pastor Leon Gant.
2001 brought another move for the Wallace’s to Fort Worth, Texas. There they joined First Greater New Hope Baptist Church serving under Pastor Billy Ray Daniels. Deacon Wallace served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and Church Administrator.
One more move to Katy, Texas, brought Larry closer to his sister Odessa, her family, and her good cooking. This move also allowed the Wallaces to join Brookhollow Baptist Church – The Church Without Walls, where our commitment to leading, evangelizing, assimilating, and proclaiming was developed and grew under Pastor Ralph Douglas West.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Wallace; and sister Rosemary Wallace.
Among those who are left to cherish his precious memories are his devoted wife of forty years, Christine Wallace; son Lydell Ash; sisters, Louise Rountree, Bernice Brown, Odessa Rubin (Felton), and Dena Carroll (Tracy); brothers, James Wallace (Dorothy), John Wallace (Sanetta), Arthur Wallace, and Billy Wallace; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Interment to follow in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Wallace may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. until the hour of his service in the church.
