William Henry Newton, Jr., 90, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Mr. Newton was born in Roanoke Rapids, NC to the late William Henry Newton and Winifred Gaynell Newton Conn and was a longtime resident of Newport News.
He was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School, U.S. Army Veteran, NN Shipyard employee, former Investigating Officer, Sergeant of NNPD, Private Investigator, Insurance Agent with Woodmen of the World, worked numerous other security positions and was Brakeman/Conductor at C&O Railroad/Amtrak where he retired. He was a Master Mason of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of VA and a Life Member, Valley of Newport News, Orient of Virginia, A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA.
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Betty Linda Newton (Watkins); daughter, Billie Lynn Whitaker and brother, Charles Newton.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his daughter, Yvonne Raynor; son, William Newton, III (Kathy); granddaughters, Beth Raynor (Tim) and Tracie Hayes (Frankie); grandson/adopted son, Travis Newton; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many other countless loving family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Reception to follow at Tim and Beth’s home in Yorktown.
