Gregory Alexander Baxter, 70, of Fayetteville, GA

Gregory Alexander Baxter, 70, of Fayetteville, GA passed away July 18, 2024.

He was born April 27, 1954 in New Bern, North Carolina to Theodore Joshua and Gladys Cox Baxter.

At age five, Mr. Baxter moved to Williamsburg, Virginia and was a 1972 graduate of James Blair High School, where he was involved with the photography and scuba diving groups. Mr. Baxter was also a lifetime member of the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums Corps.

He had a lifelong love of aviation, obtaining his private pilot’s license before getting his driver’s license. He was type rated on several airplanes and flew as a pilot with Atlantic Southeast Airlines for a short time.

Mr. Baxter graduated from Purdue University in 1984 with degrees in computer information systems and aeronautical aerospace. Upon leaving college, he started work with Cullinet Software in Atlanta, and after six months started his own company, working as a data scientist for various companies over the years. He retired in December of 2022.

Greg was a lifelong lover of Lassie, the rough collie he grew up watching on television, and raised 10 of them over the past 44 years, along with two shelties.

He married the former Elizabeth Hart in Washington, Indiana on May 31, 1980 and she survives. They met at Chicago O’Hare Airport after the blizzard of 1978.

Mr. Baxter also leaves behind two sons, Alexander Joshua (Kaydee Mattingly) and Carson Alexander Baxter, both of Fayetteville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Triston Riley and Lily Grace. A sister, Jeanie Baxter Russell of Surry, Virginia survives.

A brother, Ted, along with his parents, preceded him in death.

A celbration of life will be held September 28, 2024. The family will recieve guests from noon to 6 p.m. at 2884 Chickahominy Road, Williamsburg VA. Please RSVP to 757-645-7451.
