Born David Harry Grandinett on March 6, 1948, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the first sone of the late Harry F and Mary Anne Grandinett and returned to ashes on July 26, 2024.
He was raised in Northern Virginia, received his BSME with High Distinction from UVA in 1970 and subsequently served 3 years as an LTjg in the USCG.
Pursued his career as an Engineer with Ford Motor Company with assignments in Dearborn, Michigan; Dunton, UK; Genk, Belgium and Hiroshima, Japan with Mazda. After 33 years he retired as Engineering Director in 2005.
He had an active and creative mind and particularly enjoyed conceiving, planning, and fabricating unique furniture and cabinetry. He was also skilled in automotive restoration and repair and could fix most anything, but what he may have accomplished in his time is relatively unimportant.
In addition to merely listing what he did, perhaps it would be more enlightening to quote how he felt-
“The only truly important part of spending over 76 years on this earth is for me to be sure that my devoted wife Kay, my talented brother, Harry Lee, and Janie, the late loving mother of our beloved children, D Scott & Kelli, my precious grandchildren; Tyler, Amelia, Dylan & Brody, my cherished friends and dedicated co-workers over the years around the world, know that I loved them all and am profoundly grateful for their many special contributions to what has been for me the wonderous adventure of a happy and fulfilling life. Thank you for all you’ve meant top me and a fond farewell.”
In lieu of flowers, he would have preferred you to hug someone you love and enjoy the precious time you have together.
