Flip Toepke passed away quietly in his sleep on July 2, 2024 at the age of 72.
Flip graduated from William and Mary in 1973 after an impressive high jump career, finishing three consecutive years as State Champion and twice as Conference Champion. It was there that he met his wife, Teri Sue (Skinner), who was by his side for the next 53 years.
Flip spent almost 20 years as a probation and parole officer where he was well known for his compassion and fairness with every “client” he worked with. He also had a long secondary career with the Anheuser Busch brewery where he “spilled more beer than you’ll ever drink.”
Flip was an avid collector of all things, but had a particular affinity for Farmall tractors, neon signs, old fire trucks, and a menagerie of animals. Perhaps his greatest collection was his friends. Flip found great joy in being there when people needed him, no matter the time or place. In addition to his wife, Flip leaves behind sons Blake (Nicole) and Ty (Traci), and grandchildren Nick, Taylor, Arianna, Isabella, Austin, Ethan, Zara and Townes, as well as a loving group of in-laws, out-laws, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory in Key West Florida, the Heritage Humane Society in Williamsburg, or simply offer a hand to a stranger in need.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 28 in the Williamsburg Community Building at 401 N Boundary Street, starting with brief remarks at 2 p.m. followed by a reception for friends and family.
In the spirit of Flip, this will be a casual affair and Hawaiian shirts, classic cars, and flip flops are both welcomed and encouraged.
