Iwa “Eva” Soejima-Womack was born on March 15, 1927, in Kagoshima-Ken, Japan. She was one of four girls and one boy born to Turu and Sigenobu Soejimain.
Iwa married Robert “Bobby” Norriss Womack on February 8, 1967, in Tokyo, Japan. On September 1, 1976, Iwa became a Naturalized Citizen of The United States of America, in the Eastern District of Virginia Federal Court, Norfolk, Virginia. She was a very proud citizen.
Iwa was called home on April 10, 2024, at the home of her loving children Carolyn and Alfred Daye. Angela DeBerry was by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents Turu and Sigenobu Soejima; the love of her life Robert “Bobby” Womack; two great-great-grandchildren, Jalayah and Jaydon; and her sisters and brother. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her children, Carolyn and Alfred Daye; a very special granddaughter Nyla Daye; granddaughters, Ailsa Hobson and Keeley Daye; and grandson Erick Hobson.
She is also survived by her Japanese family which consists of nieces and nephews.
Her Newport News family includes Thelma Guy, Cynthia Black, Jackie Thompson, Angela DeBerry, Keiko, Kim Botley, Betty, Glenn, and Buffy.
Her North Carolina family includes Mary Jenkins, Lester, Constance, Phillip Tabron, and Laven Perry; great-granddaughters, Chadijah, Alyssa, Jamaya, and Kaylyn; one great-grandson Issac; one great-great-grandson Jamari; one great-great-granddaughter Amara.
Her Philadelphia family includes nieces, Trawick and Sheile Easley; and nephew Curtis Easley.
