Deborah Kirsten “Debbie” Powell, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on February 19, 2024, at the age of 49. She was born on March 1, 1974, in Portsmouth, VA, a daughter of David G. and Rose M. Frandino Powell of Virginia Beach, VA

Debbie had an illustrious career as a Material Control Coordinator with Leidos, Inc., dedicating over 30 years of her life to her work. She was known for her exceptional skills and unwavering commitment to her profession.

Beyond her professional achievements, Debbie had a deep passion for various interests in life. She was a practical person who found solace near the Caribbean Sea and loved exploring the wonders of the ocean. Debbie’s fascination with marine life extended to her love for aquariums and all things related to sea creatures, which was exemplified by her enthusiasm for Shark Week, an important event for her each year. She had an affinity for 80’s music, particularly the works of Cyndi Lauper and Depeche Mode. Additionally, she enjoyed picking strawberries, cherishing moments spent amidst the sweet aroma of the fruit.

She loved her cats, Grayson, Draco and Monkey tremendously. She and Jason regularly contributed to The Cat Corner, a rescue organization in Hampton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a contribution on their behalf allowing Debbie’s memory to continue supporting this important part of her life.

Debbie’s warm and loving nature made her a cherished member of her family. She leaves behind her adoring husband, Jason Smith, who shared countless precious memories by her side. Her parents, David G. and Rose M. Frandino Powell of Virginia Beach, mourn the loss of their beloved daughter. Debbie’s presence will be deeply missed by her sister’s, Kathleen Clark and Cheryl (Ron) Hinson both of Virginia Beach; nieces and nephews Kimberly (Matthew) Zimmer, Jack Clark, III, Matthew (Erin) Hinson and Megan Hinson, Debbie’s Goddaughter along with great nieces and nephew Rachael, Isaac, and Genevieve Zimmer.

Hobbies for Debbie, there was only one that was the most important and that was Family and friends, a forever club whose membership is Love, Loyalty and an unwavering commitment to each other.

To honor Debbie’s memory, a service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel 5033 Rouse Dr. in Virginia Beach. After the service, there will be a reception for family and friends to exchange stories and fondly recall the beautiful moments spent with Debbie.

Debbie Kirsten Powell will forever be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering dedication, and zest for life. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memories bring comfort to those she left behind.
