Laurie Moore Hite, 65, of King William, VA passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023 after a graceful and courageous battle with kidney cancer. Laurie was a loving and caring wife, mother, Grammie, friend and teacher. Anyone who met her knew how special of a person she was.
She recently retired from Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Preschool where she taught the three year old Caterpillar class for twenty-three years. She was lovingly known as Mrs. Laurie to the many students, parents and co-workers whose lives she touched forever.
Laurie was preceded in death by her father, Audrey Moore. Laurie is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Mark Hite, who took selfless care of her until the end; loving daughter Shannon Walton and her husband Philip Walton, who Laurie loved like a son; grandchildren Cooper and Avalee Walton, whom she adored with her whole heart and loved “to the moon and back and twice around the world”; mother Ruby Jean Moore; brother and sister-in-law, Wade and Katy Moore; and cousin and best friend, Joanne Wright.
In lieu of flowers, Laurie asked for donations to be made to the Dogs on Call Therapy Program at VCU, a program that brought Laurie smiles and joy during her hospital stays. Donations can be made at support.vcu.edu/give/chai or mailed to Box 843042, Richmond, VA 23284-3042.
