Phyllis Elliott Buchanan, 90, of Providence Forge

Phyllis had a good and long life.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lacy R. Buchanan; and their son, Floyd Joseph. She is survived by two daughters and a son, Patty Lee, Siva Jewel, and Michael Ray; Nine grandchildren, two of which they raised (Christa and Cameron), and seven great grandchildren.

Phyllis had to be busy ALL the time. She volunteered with many groups, her church, Providence United Methodist Church; Ladies Auxiliary for the fire department; LaSeratoma; at the elementary school, either serving as a substitute nurse or working with special needs children in reading; served as an officer with Virginia Learning Disabled program; at the county fair, either judging, helping with set-up, or entering one of her handmade quilts; Girl Scouts; officer in Eastern Star of Roanoke; and her most favorite job was dispatching at Providence Forge Volunteer Rescue Squad.
She said her only regret was she could not work another year to have 20 years of service, she had to stop at 19 years.

Phyllis and Lacy had numerous foster children come through their home over many years.

She loved being busy so when she would watch tv she had to have her hands busy either knitting, crocheting, or cross stitching. She said she could not sit still if her hands were not busy.

She will be sorely missed, not just for her baked goods but the loving kindness she showed everyone she met.
