Walter Barry of Toano, Virginia passed away unexpectantly at age 64 on November 20, 2023.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Raber, son Matthew Barry, daughter Amy (Sirkis) Dollins, granddaughters Scarlett and Emily Dollins and brother Mark Barry. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Campbell Barry II and Patricia Ann (Rigano) Barry.

Walter was born in Port Chester, New York and grew up in Mamaroneck. He moved to Berkeley, CA after graduating from Georgia Institute of Technology with a MS degree in Electrical Engineering to work at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He conducted research and managed projects at the high-density particle accelerator facility for over 30 years. During this time, he met Janet and they married in 1995.

When they both retired, they moved to Toano, Virginia, where Walter spent his time building and playing guitars, which was his primary hobby. He also enjoyed wood working and spent time in his elaborate workshop. He was proud of his daughter, Amy, who graduated from the College of William and Mary in chemistry and has gone on to teach high school chemistry and physics. He was also very proud of his son who graduated this year from his alma mater with a PhD in mechanical engineering and is now doing post-doctoral research at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the After Breast Cancer Diagnosis Organization. This organization was especially helpful to him and Janet, while she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
