Michael Frank Adkins, 64, of Williamsburg

Michael Frank Adkins (Nelsen Funeral Home)

Michael Frank Adkins, known by those who love him as Mike, Dad, or Papa, 64, of Williamsburg, passed away on November 11th, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Adkins (1967), and mother, Ann Adkins (2003). He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Teresa; sons, Michael (Ruth) and Wesley (Bethany); and grandchildren, Frankie, Cariann, and Joel.

Mike moved to Williamsburg with his mom after the tragic death of his dad while deployed on the USS Forestal to Yankee Station, Vietnam. After going away to college and getting married to the love of his life, the Navy would bring Mike back to Williamsburg, where he served as part of the first crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln and then on the USS Enterprise. Mike and his family are proud of his Naval service. In the Navy, Mike specialized in aviation electronics, leading to a lifelong career in electronics as a naval contractor and in the private sector.

Mike was a devoted son, husband, father, and papa. He was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His church service included working with the youth often as a Scout Master. Mike’s scouting philosophy included camping often, no matter the weather, and there isn’t anything you can’t live without for a few days. In July 2023, he graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Excelsior University. This accomplishment took decades of hard work while juggling life’s demands, tragedies, and triumphs.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, at the Lightfoot Building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (2017 Newman Road Williamsburg, VA 23185) with celebration of life to follow at 2 p.m. in the same building. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 17 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, W.Va.
