Louise Mealing, 97, of Newport News, VA, transitioned from this world on Monday, September 25, 2023, with a few family members by her side.
She was born to the late Daniel Henry Carpenter and Dorothy Mae Carpenter in Mineola, New York.
She was predeceased by her loving son, Larry Mealing, as well as her parents, sisters, and brothers. She is survived by her seven children: Rodney Mealing, Robert Mealing, Glen Mealing, Drew Mealing, Steven Mealing, Jeffrey Mealing, and Sharon (Mealing) Menzies. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She has a legacy of eighty-three members from her own tree.
Louise was determined to turn her dream of getting her GED into a reality. So, at age 65, in 1991, with sheer determination and perseverance, she finally received her GED, making herself proud and showing her children and grandchildren that at any age and no matter what life has put you through, you can make your dreams come true if you believe you can achieve them.
Louise was the matriarch of our family and was known by many names, such as beloved Mommy, Mom, Lou, Ma, Mother, Nanny, Aunt Peggy, Ms. Mealing, or just Peggy, to others. She was and is a loving, selfless spirit who cared for others before she cared for herself. Her original home in Amityville, New York, was always filled with love for her children and, later, her grandchildren. It was rare to see her without one of her children or grandchildren on her lap at any given time. She could make you feel special and unique through her motivating words and encouragement as the go-to person for anything needed. No matter what it was, she would try to be there, whether to talk about daily life or listen to you vent about life itself. She beamed with pride and happiness each time an event occurred within the family and gave us beautiful memories. She was so proud of her family and wanted everyone to know how much she loved all of us.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. To follow in Louise’s footsteps of being a donor to multiple charities, we ask in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Epilepsy Foundation or a foundation of your choosing.
