James “Jim” Thompson Bland was born April 27, 1952 to James Field Bland and Martha Thompson Bland, the youngest of four children, William Robert Bland, Julie Bland, and Mary Lynn Wilding.
He married the love of his life, Diane Kirwan, in 1978 and fathered two children, James Patrick and Lauren Teresa. Later in his life, after Diane passed from cancer in 1993, he met and married his second love, Amy Callahan Klink, and became father to two stepsons, Zachary Joseph and Ryan William.
He served 17 years in the US Army, retiring as a Captain. He served his community as a Social Worker and as the Director of Social Work at Eastern State Hospital. An outdoorsman, a tournament winning bass fisherman, a wood worker and a dog lover.
Jim passed away in his home, surrounded by his family, after a long struggle with cancer. Services will be held at Nelsen’s Funeral Home in Williamsburg VA, on Thursday, August 3, 2023, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
