Brett Theroux, 37, of Norfolk, VA, went to be with Jesus on the evening of July 19, 2023. Born on April 16, 1986 in Orlando, FL to Paul and Tina Theroux, Brett’s life was filled with compassion, creativity, and an unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
Upon graduating from Nansemond River High School in Suffolk, VA, Brett worked in a variety of sales positions where he excelled due to his easygoing personality and affection for people. He most recently worked for Ecco Sunroom & Awning where he was beloved by both his customers and co-workers alike.
His commitment to his faith guided his actions and served as a source of strength throughout his life. He was intensely curious and thoughtful which led him to be a voracious reader of all subjects and genres. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and spending time with his family and friends.
Brett is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Maurice and Eileen Theroux, as well as his maternal grandfather Donald Tinker who he adored.
Brett will be lovingly remembered by his surviving family and friends, including his parents Paul and Tina Theroux, his sister Lindly Theroux, his brothers Blake and Joel Theroux, Joel’s fiancé Erin Bailey, and his beloved girlfriend Kailyn Carmichael. Although Brett is no longer with us, his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A word from his mother:
I would be remiss if I did not mention Brett’s fight with addiction. He was always very open about his struggle. He gave me permission to share his story with anyone who needed strength and encouragement. Over the years I have been able to enlighten and encourage many families; moms, dads, siblings, and loved ones who found themselves in the midst of this insidious fight. The countless hours spent talking with him and praying with him, and his unwavering commitment to helping me understand the war within his mind has helped and will continue to help many. From the very beginning of his struggle I endeavored to make sure he knew that it did not define him, it was merely something he battled. For those in the fight I want to say “every single day an addict gets sober and every single day an addict stays sober” – one day at a time.
A celebration of Brett’s life and memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 1 at Horizon Community Church located at 2430 Gum Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23321 followed by the graveside committal at Meadowbrook Memorial and Cremation Gardens located at 4569 Shoulders Hill Rd, Suffolk, VA 23435.
