Celia Curlee Johnson, 79, of Newport News, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Celia was born in Portsmouth, VA in 1943, and was a graduate of Churchland High School. She attended the College of William & Mary, graduating in 1965. Celia was inducted into the W&M Olde Guarde in 2015. She had a 30-year career as a librarian with Newport News Public Schools. She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization, the MI Hummel Club, and Denbigh Christian Church.
Celia was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Emma Curlee of Portsmouth, VA. She is survived by her husband of 58 years,
James “Jimmy’ Johnson, her children, Julie Johnson Young (Tige Young) of Clarksville, MD, and Jamie Johnson of Newport News, VA, and her grandchildren Alyssa, Ashley, Cassie, and Fisher.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Denbigh Christian Church. The family will receive guests following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Kidney Fund or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
