Juanita Mae Loudermilk, 87, was born into a West Virginia coal mining family in 1935. She was a tiny woman with a big heart and a spine of steel. She married her soulmate, Randy, in 1953. He joined the U.S. Air Force and she made the transition from poor coal miner’s daughter to strong military wife. She credited her strong faith in God to her success in raising her three children and constantly supporting her husband. They transferred to Virginia in 1973 after their last overseas tour and joined Bethel Baptist Church in York County.
After retiring from the Air Force and then NASA, Mom and Dad enjoyed several years of traveling together. She took great pride in the fact that she had been to the Holy Land and walked in Jesus’ footsteps. She loved to tell people about her camel ride in Egypt. She always loved little children and babies; after Dad passed away, she spent her Sundays in the church nursery taking care of babies. She was “The Baby Whisperer”. She made 100% hand stitched quilts the old-fashioned way and was an incredible cook. She was blessed to live a full life and get to see her 87th birthday.
We will miss her so much but take great comfort in knowing without a doubt she is in heaven with Jesus and her beloved, Randy. She is survived by her children, Sally, Tim and his wife, Katie and Dave and her grandchildren, Ally, Dustin, and Emily.
