Eunice Wallace, 71, of Newport News

Eunice Elaine Wallace (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

Eunice Elaine Wallace was born October 4, 1951 in Newport News, Virginia to Susan Ann Copeland Moody and the late Robert Elmo Wallace.

Eunice attended the Newport News Public School System and graduated from Denbigh High School with the Class of 1970. Following graduation Eunice moved to Washington, DC and started working at AT&T. She then returned to Newport News and transferred to C&P, now known as Verizon, where she retired after forty years.

Eunice was affectionately known as “Shorty,” “E.E.,” and “E.” She was Aunt Eunice to her nieces and nephews, and many others without direct relation. Eunice was a proud self-proclaimed “tomboy”. She loved to ride her bike and play marbles in Mama Georgia’s front yard while wearing dresses. In her teenage years the word ‘no’ had little meaning when she wanted to go out at night. She could not whistle so she would make her distinctive “eeaarrreet” call and Mark Edlow would show up with the ladder to help her sneak out of her second-floor bedroom window. She would bribe her little cousin Calvin, who she lovingly called “Poopsie,” not to tell on her with a small can of fruit cocktail. Eunice was allowed to go anywhere if her cousin Clint Wright was going with her.

Eunice was a devout woman of God and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Colossian Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia when she was a young girl and continued her membership there into her adult years. She later become a founding member of True Vine Baptist Church, Newport News, VA, where Rev. Dr. Irvin D. Melvin is Pastor. Eunice served on the Usher Board, President of the Choir, and a leader of the Youth Department. She remained a faithful member of True Vine until her passing. Throughout her illnesses, aches, pains, and decline in mobility her faith in GOD never wavered.

Eunice was a wonderful, loving and generous daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and forever friend.

Eunice is preceded in death by her father, Robert “Jelly” Elmo Wallace (Geneva) and brother, Robert Elmo Wallace Jr.  She leaves to cherish precious memories with her loving mother, Susan Ann Copeland Moody (Eugene Moore) of Newport News, Virginia; stepfather, Clarence Moody of Dillon, South Carolina; three sisters, Mary M.
