Rev. Lawrence A. Shoberg, 86, of Williamsburg

Rev. Lawrence A. Shoberg (Bucktrout Funeral Home)

The Reverend Lawrence A. Shoberg USN Ret. 86 died Monday June 27, 2022 of complications from ALS. He is survived by Karen, his wife, partner and soul mate of 62 years.

Larry was born to Arvid and Margaret Shoberg on Feb. 6, 1936 in Torrance, CA. He lived in California until he left home to attend Pacific Lutheran College in Tacoma, WA and after graduating attended Trinity Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus, OH. It was during his internship in Michigan City, IN that he met and married Karen. After 7 years of parish ministry he felt called to serve God and Country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He proudly served as a Naval Chaplain for the next 23 years and retired as a Captain in 1991. He then returned to the parish ministry and served as pastor at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Williamsburg for the next 8 years at which time he “retired” but continued to serve the church in many interim settings for the next 15 years.

In addition to Karen he is survived by his children Cindi (David) Eidson , David (Traci) Shoberg and Connie (Keith) Roberts, grandchildren Bradley (Lauren) Eidson, Kelsey (Matt) Slay, Kyle & Camden Roberts and Nick & Ian Shoberg, great grandsons Maverick Slay and Will Eidson.

A devoted husband, father, Papa, Grampy and Grandpa he willingly went with Karen to any and all family events no matter how far away they were. He was an avid gardener and lover of birds and spent countless hours in his yard. His next favorite place to be was on the tennis courts. An involved Kiwanian he served in many capacities and could always be found volunteering at their many projects.

Rest peacefully faithful servant of God, you have served His people in so many ways and your presence will be missed here in your earthly home.
