Roswitha T. Bell, 84, of Newport News

Roswitha T. Bell, 84, of Newport News, VA, was called to eternal rest on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Roswitha “Rose” was born in Germany to the late Jacob and Anna Tomasini on May 11, 1938. She lived there with her family until she moved to the states with her husband Raymond William Bell, Sr., in 1960.

Being the epitome of a military spouse, Rose wore that title with pride. She made sure when Raymond stepped out the house, his shoes were spit shined and not a thread was out of place in his uniform. Going from one place to the next, she made their house a home with home cooked meals and laughter from their children. Roswitha loved all aspects of nature. Gardening, bird watching, and just taking a walk, were a few of her favorite pastimes. She also loved animals, especially dogs.

When it comes to work ethic, Rose was a dedicated team member. She absolutely loved the work she did with the Association for Retarded Citizens (now ARC). She forged quite the friendships through her care of the families that came through the program. Later on in life, she and her daughter Caroline started a business called Made with Love by Grandma. Rose put her seamstress talent to work by making baby blankets, bibs, seat covers and just about anything. These items were extra special because of the love stitched into the very fabric of each.

Roswitha is survived by her four children, William Bell, Caroline Wilson, Kathleen Garrow and Raymond Bell, Jr.; eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three siblings, Louise Seebauer, Gunter and Heinz Tomasini along with additional family members and friends, including those in Germany.

A memorial service will be held 6PM Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, VA. The family will receive friends, one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ARC of Virginia Donate (thearcofva.org) or the SPCA at Donate Now | Norfolk SPCA.
