Linwood Porter Slayton, 74, of Lanexa, VA passed away peacefully at home and entered heaven on May 5, 2022.

Linwood loved the Lord and his family very much. When his children were young, he would pray with them while tucking them into bed at night. He would pray that God would bless his family with a house of their own. God answered, and gave them above and beyond what they could have ever dreamed. Linwood always worked very hard to provide for his family. He made sure that their needs were met, and sometimes before his own needs were met.

At the age of 72, while enduring cancer treatments, Linwood decided he would build a tree house with his grandchildren. Due to his declining health, he was not able to complete the treehouse. However, what he began was built with pride and perfection, because he didn’t believe in doing anything “halfway!”

Linwood was a loving dad, husband, and grandfather who always wanted to do what was right for his family. He also enjoyed playing the song “Your Love Amazes Me” when he wanted to dance with his wife, Angela. He exhibited his love in many other forms when he wanted his family to know that he loved them. Recently, he sent the song “What a Difference You Made in My Life” to Angela, Terri, and Gary’s phones just to let them know how he felt about them before he left this world.

Linwood was preceded in death by his parents Linwood and Ruby Slayton and brother Carl Lee Slayton. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Angela Slayton; a daughter Terri Slayton-Myers; a son Gary Slayton (Tammy); and two grandchildren Seth and Hannah Myers.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at 10-11 a.m. Burial will take place on the same day at 3 p.m. in the afternoon, and will take place at Peninsula Memorial Park, at 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at www.stjude.org
