Rose Marie Barrett, 94, piano teacher who was always prepared with a tune

WILLIAMSBURG — Rose Marie Barrett, 94, formerly of Boston, Mass., passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Barrett; son, John C. Barrett Jr.; parents, Theodore and Amelia Vozzella (DeAngelis); and brother-in-law, Kenneth Larkin.

Rose graduated from Roslindale High School and Boston Business School. During World War II, she worked briefly in the secretarial pool of Army Intelligence. She retired from the Allen Ryan CPA firm, where she worked as the office manager.

While living in Massachusetts, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Roslindale, Mass. Rose enjoyed traveling and ocean cruising. She started a Bridge Club in Williamsburg and was a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society. She had taught piano and loved playing it, always ready to play a tune on any nearby keyboard. She also always loved socializing and doting on her grandchildren.

She will be missed by her sister, Elizabeth A. Larkin of Roslindale, Massachusetts; daughter, Susan Howard (Barrett), and son-in-law, Ernest Howard, of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Christopher Kilgore, and his wife, Jenny, of Louisville, Tenn., Emily Criner (Howard), and her husband, Justin, of Chesterfield and Jonathan Howard of Richmond; and three great-grandchildren, Emma Kilgore, Ava Kilgore, and Aria Criner.

Her family is very grateful to Spring Arbor Assisted Living of Williamsburg and Williamsburg Hospice House for their care and support.

There will be a memorial celebration of life in Boston, Mass., later this summer.
