WILLIAMSBURG — Douglas Alonzo Wright Jr., 31, caring son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend, left this world suddenly Wednesday, May 19, 2021. His precious life began Feb. 11, 1990, in Newport News, born to Joyce and Douglas Wright Sr.

As a young man raised in Williamsburg, Douglas gave his life to Christ at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Surrounded by a large loving family, he spent much of his life in Williamsburg and the neighboring areas.

Douglas had a quiet and efficacious demeanor, always lending a helping hand whenever available, whether it was giving a ride or carrying a piano down the street. He shared an extraordinary love for food (especially pizza), cars, and being outside. Douglas was not a man of many words to give you details, but he had his own way of sharing his unique sense of humor often with a sly smile, mischievous grin, or simple chuckle as a response.

He had a knack for getting around the area and finding unique places to work. A jack of many trades, he was trained to drive a rig at TMC Transportation and enjoyed working with his hands. He shared his expertise with the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg Memorial Park, and numerous other places.

Douglas’s sheepish grin and loving nature will live in the hearts of many and will forever be cherished by his parents, Joyce and Douglas Sr.; sister, Sierra Wright; brothers, Aaronde Williams (Shaneka), Roger Williams III (Keyonia), and Dominique Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Wright may be viewed from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 27, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
