On Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019, Chief Master Sgt. James Edward Holmes Sr., 68, transitioned to his heavily home Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019. On Nov. 2, 1951, he was born the sixth of 13 children to the late Willie E. and Fannie B. Holmes in Jamestown, Louisiana.
James graduated from Ringgold High School in Jamestown, Louisiana, with the Class of 1971. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 28 years of service. After retirement, he worked 15 years with Thomas Nelson Community College.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby Joe and Bobby Ray; sisters, Carrie, Betty Lou and Jessie B.; father and mother-in-law, Deacon Percell and Deaconess Irene Brown. His loving memories will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Joyce R. Holmes; son, James E. Holmes Jr.; grandson, Jalen Holmes; goddaughter, Dr. Chantee Earl; brother, Esley (Roberta); sisters, Willie Mae (Isaac), Mattie (Thurman), Honey B. (Herman), Ruthie and Mary (Keith); devoted aunt, Ruth Holmes; and loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27, at Whiting’s Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Holmes may be viewed beginning at 9 a.m. Friday until the hour of his service.
