Irene P. ‘Pat’ Roethel, 79, gifted sculptor and shining example of unconditional love

Irene P. “Pat” Roethel, 79, passed away on February 10, 2016, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Irene Cox.

In 1954, Pat married Richard, the love of her life. Together they raised their children and celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage. Pat was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a shining example of unconditional love. Pat was a friend to all who met her. A gifted sculptor, she created beautiful pieces of art. She also loved sport fishing, skiing and playing golf. Pat was creative, artistic and passionate.

She will be most remembered for her beauty, grace and love of family.

Pat was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard F. Roethel; and treasured sister, Louise LeStrange.

Left to cherish her memory: five sons, Richard P. Roethel (Pamela), Timothy M. Roethel, Daniel G. Roethel (Kathy), Mark M. Roethel (Maureen) and Christopher J. Roethel (Rosella); two daughters, Tracy I. Peterson (Rob) and Karen L. Lorenzo; sister, Maureen Borkowski; fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren as well as numerous other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, Virginia Beach on Saturday, Feb. 13th and Sunday, Feb. 14th from 4 to 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15th at Church of the Holy Family. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
