George J. Trombley, Jr., a native of Watertown, N.Y. and a Peninsula resident since 1970, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the age of 79.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1973 after 20 years of service. After retirement, he worked for NASA for 22 years in the machine shop, retiring in 1995. He was an active member of the York Lions Club, member of Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown and volunteer for meals on wheels.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggyann Trombley; daughter, Lisa Escott; and sister, Kathy Smith.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Drewry and her husband, Eugene, of Seaford; son, Bryan Trombley, of Denver; sister, Sally Lusby, of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Melissa Arneault and her husband, Joshua, Thomas Drewry and Patrick and Allison Escott; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Arneault; aunt, Betty Jeffers, of Watertown, N.Y.; and nephews, Aaron Lusby and Matt Smith both of Florida.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Carleton Bakkum and the Rev. Connie Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. A reception will follow at the church social hall.
