James Harold Tawney, 81, coal miner who attended the Church of Christ in Williamsburg

James Harold Tawney died Jan. 27, 2014, from Chronic Obstruct Pulmonary Disease. He was 81.

He was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Logan, W.V. and eventually settled in Lanexa. Throughout his life he served in many capacities, including the U.S. Army, coal mining and as a federal mine inspector. He was a member of the Danville Church of Christ and Church of Christ in Williamsburg.

He was preceded in death by his son, James H. Tawney Jr. and granddaughter, Nicole Smith.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Josephine Tawney; daughters, Deborah Reid (James T), Linda Dodson (Robbin), JoElla Cifers (Gary) and Amanda Smith (Steve); 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Memory Garden Cemetery in Madison, W.V. Arrangements to be handled by Handley Funeral Home.
