Lionsbridge Draws 1-1 with NOVA in Front of Energetic Home Crowd

NEWPORT NEWS — Lionsbridge FC played to a 1-1 draw with Northern Virginia FC on Saturday night, in front of a huge, energetic crowd at TowneBank Stadium.

The draw keeps Lionsbridge FC in first place in the USL League Two Chesapeake Division with 16 points from 7 games, but in a very tight race with Charlottesville, who have 15 points from 7 games, and Virginia Beach, who have 13 points from 6 games.

Northern Virginia FC took an early lead in the 17th minute. Lionsbridge FC equalized six minutes later with a goal by Louis Beckett, assisted by Josh Gordon. Despite numerous scoring opportunities and dominating possession, Lionsbridge could not find the back of the net for the remaining 67 minutes.

Lionsbridge was outshot by Northern Virginia FC, but held a notable 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, reflecting their offensive pressure throughout the match. Goalkeeper Tyler Hogan made 11 saves to keep Lionsbridge in the game.

Fans enjoyed a post-game fireworks show powered by Bowditch Ford after the match.

Lionsbridge continues its homestand next Saturday, June 22, against Patuxent FA on the 3rd annual Kick Out Hunger Night. Fans are encouraged to bring five non-perishable food items or donate $10 to the Virginia Foodbank to receive a coupon from Food Lion and a free ticket to LBFC’s home game on June 29.
