WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary rising sophomore Raiden Lafortune will represent the Tribe in the javelin at the USATF U20 Championships on Wednesday, June 12. The event will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The javelin competition will take place on the opening day of the championships at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The meet serves as the qualifying opportunity for the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru in August.

Lafortune earned a bronze medal at the CAA Championships in May with a throw of 63.33m (207’9″). The mark qualified him for the U20 Championships and ranked him ninth on the Tribe’s school record performers list.

The Niceville, Fla., native qualified for the NCAA East Region Prelims during his rookie campaign. Lafortune finished 24th at the event with a throw of 63.19m (207’4″). During his first season with the Green and Gold, Lafortune enjoyed an improvement of 8.49m (27′ 5′) from his best mark in high school of 54.84m (179’11).

Last year, four Tribe athletes (Catherine Garrison, Kelly Ann Sutterfield, Brendan DiStefano and Jonathan Kumer) competed at the USATF U20 Outdoor National Championships. Garrison finished second in the 3000m steeplechase at the championships and went on to represent Team USA at the 2024 Pan-American U20 Championships, where she earned a bronze medal.
