Lionsbridge FC Falls to Charlottesville, Home Unbeaten Streak Snapped

NEWPORT NEWS — Lionsbridge FC’s home unbeaten streak came to an end on Sunday night as it fell 2-0 to USL League Two expansion team Charlottesville Blues.

Charlottesville took the lead in the 30th minute when Samuel Vigilante found the back of the net. The Blues doubled their advantage in the 59th minute with a penalty kick from Josh Kirkland. The penalty was awarded after a controversial foul in the box by Lionsbridge’s Josh Gordon, who had just been substituted into the game moments earlier.

Despite controlling much of the possession and outshooting Charlottesville 15-9, Lionsbridge struggled to find the target, managing just two shots on goal. It also had a significant advantage in corner kicks, 6-2.

The loss snapped Lionsbridge’s 20-game home unbeaten streak against USL League Two opponents and marked their first regular home defeat since 2019, spanning 41 games.

Lionsbridge will look to rebound on the road against Northern Virginia FC on Wednesday night in Winchester before returning to TowneBank Stadium next Saturday, June 1, to face Ashland Town FC.
