W&M Men’s Tennis Tops Brown at ECAC Championship

(Tribe Athletics)

PHILADELPHIA — Graduate students Konstantinos Raptis and Satchel Benn and freshman Oliver Hague each posted singles victories as William & Mary topped Brown on the second day of the ECAC Championship at the Hecht Tennis Center on Saturday.

W&M (3-4) won at the top two doubles positions to take the initial point of the match, before claiming victories at three of the top four singles posts to down the Bears (3-9).

How It Happened

  • Benn and Hague notched a doubles win at No. 2 to give W&M the early lead. The Tribe pair won for the second time in as many days, dropping just two games in a 6-2 win over Tim Dzhurinskiy and Sam Feldman. Benn and Hague improved to 7-5 overall.
  • Raptis and fellow graduate student Bill Due secured the initial point of the match with a 6-4 win over Zander Bravo and Alex Finkelstein at the top spot. The Tribe tandem upped its mark to 4-2 on the year.
  • Four of the six singles matches went to three sets, but the Tribe claimed the first one to push its lead to 2-0. After dropping the first set to Dzhurinskiy, Hague bounced back with matching 6-2 wins in the second and third sets for a win at No. 4. The Tribe rookie ran his team-leading singles ledger to 14-6, including a 5-2 mark on line four.
  • Benn followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over Finkelstein at No. 2. It was his 10th singles win of the year as he improved to 2-1 at the second spot.
  • Raptis provided the capper with his second-straight win on line three. The Tribe graduate student won the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2), over Alex Koong, before rolling in the second, 6-1, to clinch the Tribe victory. It was his eighth win of the season.
