HAMPTON — The Virginia Peninsula Community College men’s home basketball game scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 3, against Washington Adventist University was postponed due to illnesses on the team, while the women’s basketball game against Virginia State University’s junior varsity team scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30, was canceled because of injuries.
“Our team has come down with a ‘sick bug’ that has taken down the majority,” Gators coach Chris Moore wrote in an email. “Thankfully, only one of them has contacted COVID and he is remaining in quarantine until he is fully cleared.”
A makeup date has not been announced, but Moore said it will be next semester.
The Gators have two games scheduled for this week, Dec. 8 at Mid-Atlantic Christian in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and Dec. 10 at Frederick Community College in Maryland, before returning for a weekend homestand Dec. 16 against Monroe College of the Bronx and Dec. 17 versus Patrick & Henry College.
The Gators’ game against Virginia State University’s junior varsity team was canceled because of injuries. The two teams are scheduled to play Friday, Dec. 8, in Petersburg.
The Gators also play at Frederick Community College in Maryland on Sunday, Dec. 10, and at Bryant and Stratton in Virginia Beach on Thursday, Dec. 14. They women won’t be home again until Sunday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. against Patrick & Henry, part of a doubleheader with the men’s program.
