WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary head women’s tennis coach Jessica Giuggioli announced the signing of five-star recruit Mira Kernagis (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) to a National Letter of Intent.

“We’re very excited to be adding Mira to our 2024-25 roster,” Giuggioli said. “Mira has a great game with a lot of potential. She is very composed on court and will be a positive addition to the team.”

Kernagis is a five-star recruit according to the Tennis Recruiting Network. The website ranks her No. 52 nationally, No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region and No. 2 in the state of Illinois.

As a senior, Kernagis finished third in the state of Illinois this past fall in singles, the highest finish for a Hilltopper in school history. In 2022, she was named a finalist for the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association Pitchford Sportsmanship Award. Kernagis was selected as Glenard West’s team MVP in both 2022 and 2023.

In juniors, Kernagis won a Midwest Closed L3 singles championship at the Indianapolis event in 2022. She tallied a National L3 doubles crown in Las Vegas in 2022 and a Midwest Closed L3 doubles title in Michigan in 2022. Kernagis was a doubles finalist at the National L2 West Post event in 2023.

Tennis runs in the Kernagis family as Mira’s older brother, Alex, played for four years at Johns Hopkins.

At Glenbard West, Mira was an Honor roll recipient and was recognized as an Outstanding Athlete. She was also a member of the Medical Club and National Honors Society as well as the Spikeball Club Social Media Manager.

The Tribe has won 28 CAA Championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament on 25 occasions, which ranks 19th in the country. Under head coach Jessica Giugioli, W&M is 28-15 over the last two seasons and has won back-to-back CAA titles.
