W&M Defensive Coordinator Departs for Head Coaching Opportunity

(Tribe Athletics)

WILLIAMSBURG —William & Mary Head Football Coach Mike London announced that the football program’s defensive coordinator, Vincent Brown, resigned Friday afternoon to accept the head coaching position at North Carolina A&T.

“I am excited for Vincent,” London said. “He is an outstanding coach and has earned the opportunity to lead his own program. I know he will be a great addition to the North Carolina A&T family. I wish him and his wife, Chandra, the very best.”

Brown, who also served as the Tribe’s associate head coach and linebackers coach, recently completed his fourth season at W&M. His defense played a significant role in the Tribe’s just completed season that saw it earn a share of the Colonial Athletics Association crown.  His unit ranked sixth nationally in forced turnovers (25) and third down conversion defense (.315) last season. Additionally, W&M ranked first in the CAA and 16th nationally in red zone defense, while it was second in the CAA in sacks (33).

A number of W&M players thrived under his tutelage and developed into some of the nation’s best, as he mentored three Tribe All-Americans – Bill Murray, Nate Lynn and John Pius. Additionally, Jalen Jones was selected as the 2022 CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year and was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, which honors the nation’s top FCS freshman.

Brown, a former All-Pro linebacker for the New England Patriots, took over the Tribe’s defense in 2019 after stints as a coordinator at Howard University and UConn. He has also held assistant coaching positions at the University of Virginia, the University of Richmond and the Dallas Cowboys before joining W&M’s staff.
