Walsingham Academy’s first Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools baseball championship game did not go as planned Friday, as the Trojans suffered an 8-1 loss to Greenbrier Christian Academy.

Four Walsingham pitchers took the mound, with most struggling to contain a Greenbrier offense that amassed 15 hits in the win.

After allowing a run in the bottom of the first inning, Walsingham tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, as Zach Stanko drove in Beau LeJeune.

Unfortunately for the Trojans, Greenbrier retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and never looked back. The Gators added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth to blow the game open and take the championship.

Walsingham (15-8) now will wait to see if it is selected to play in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association state tournament that begins next week.
