Cross-Country Roundup: Grafton, Tabb Sweep Conference Meets

Grafton’s boys and girls cross-country teams swept the Conference 18 meet held at Eastern State Hospital on Tuesday.

In the boys race, Grafton finished first overall with 22 points. Lafayette finished second overall with 41 points, and Jamestown took third place with 60 points.

Lafayette’s Konrad Steck took first place overall with a time of 16:04. Grafton took the next four positions as Price Owens (16:31) and Miles Owens (16:52) were second and third, respectively. Brandon Tackling of Grafton was fourth in a time of 16:57, and Dylan Lorio-MacNamara was fifth with a time of 17:09.

Placing sixth and seventh was Lafayette’s Liam Bonga (17:20) and Cade Moreno (17:25), respectively. Grafton’s final scorer was Dylan Comer in eighth place in a time of 17:35. Next was Lafayette’s John Barton in ninth place with a time of 17:40.

Jamestown placed all five scoring runners from 10th to 14th place. Top scorer Cameron Coates placed 10th with a time of 17:43, while Jyrec McCray was 11th in a time of 18:04.

Rylan Flint (18:08) was 12th, Calvin Hart (18:09) was 13th and Daniel Napolitano was 14th with a time of 18:11. The final Lafayette scorer was Marcos Piggott in 18th place with a time of 18:27.

Grafton’s girls took first place with 28 total points, which beat second-place Lafayette with 31 points. Jamestown took third with 74 team points.

Lafayette’s Delaney Savedge took first place overall in a time of 19:15, while her teammate Brooke Crookston was second with a time of 19:42.

Grafton’s Kira Freedman (19:52) was third overall, while Maya Caden was fourth with a time of 20:14. Lafayette’s Summer Chambers took fifth place in 20:29.

Grafton rounded out its scorers from sixth to eighth place. Sami Wanderer took sixth place in 20:45, Tacoma Mendelsohn was seventh in a time of 20:46 and Veronica Seguin took eighth with a time of 21:06.

Lafayette’s Serenity Chavez took ninth place in a time of 21:40, and the Rams rounded out their scoring as Jessica Link took 14th place in a time of 22:11.

Jamestown’s top runner was Kathleen Yates, who took 12th place in 21:54. Teammate Taylor Stutt was 13th in 22:07, and Thorin Jean was 15th with a time of 22:12. Gaphne Glueck took 16th place with a time of 22:22, and Skye Thomson rounded out the Jamestown scorers in 18th place in 23:07.

Tabb Sweeps Conference 27 Meet

Tabb’s boys and girls cross-country teams swept the Conference 27 meet held at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake on Tuesday.

In the girls race, Tabb swept the top-five scoring positions as York, Phoebus, Booker T. Washington and Lakeland did not field enough runners to place as a team.

Tabb took first place as a team with 15 points, which beat the only other scoring team I.C. Norcom, who had 47 points.

Of the scoring runners, Tabb’s Lindsey Blanks took first place with a time of 18:34. Her teammate and sister Lauren Blanks finished second in a time of 19:25.

Tabb runners Kallie Wolf, Emma Stephens and Makayla Stutzman took third, fourth and sixth overall, respectively. York’s Lori Prieto finished fifth with a time of 20:27, but did not count as a scored runner.

York’s Hannah Johns took ninth overall with a time of 22:18, while teammate Sarah Benothame was 10th with a time of 23:20.

In the boys race, Tabb also took first place with 19 points. York finished second as a team with 60 points.

Tabb sophomore Preston Klekar finished second overall with a time of 16:30, while his teammate Andre Jones was third with a time of 16:58. Jacob Kaminer of Tabb took fourth place with a time of 17:02.

Erik Platt (17:46) and Phillip Arcara (17:53) of Tabb took seventh and eighth place, respectively.

York’s top runner was Noah Fields, taking ninth place overall with a time of 17:54. Ryan Born was 12th with a time of 18:19, while Liam Kempton took 13th in a time of 18:26. Jarrett Medford was 15th in a time of 19:11, and Cale Overstreet finished 16th in a time of 19:20.
