Williamsburg Parks and Rec is Accepting Applications for Fall Tennis Leagues

City of Williamsburg logoThose interested in participating in Williamsburg Parks and Recreation’s upcoming adult fall tennis league have about three weeks to register.

The registration deadline is 4:30 p.m. Aug. 28.

The leagues, which have been running for more 20 years, will start the week of Sept. 14 and will run through the first week of November.

Williamsburg Parks and Recreation is offering men’s and women’s singles and doubles leagues, which are broken up into “A” and “B” tiers depending on skill set. There is also a mixed doubles league with an “A” and “B” tier.

Each team or player is guaranteed to play at least five best-of-three set matches, though usually more than five matches are played depending on the number of participants.

After the regular season, each league and tier will have a single elimination tournament of the top four teams or players to determine a champion.

Because some potential participants might have scheduling conflicts, Williamsburg Parks and Rec is offering a day league that allows players to compete during the day instead of the usual evening hours.

Recreation supervisor DeRocke Croom said the tennis leagues are a great way to be social, while at the same time remaining active.

“Tennis is a gentleman’s sport, so it gives them the chance to interact with other people and tennis enthusiasts who want to come out and play friendly matches,” he said, “It’s a great way to meet new people and just to enjoy the game of tennis at our courts at Kiwanis Park.”

Registration fees are $50 per doubles team, or $25 per partner if paying individually, and $40 per singles player.
