Volleyball: Koon Named State Player of the Year as Warhill Puts Four on All-3A First Team

Warhill senior hitter Alex Koon, who led the Lions to the school’s first state championship this fall, has been named the 3A state volleyball Player of the Year.

Koon’s father and coach, Greg, joined her in earning top honors by being voted Coach of the Year.

Koon, who will graduate in June with the Bay Rivers District’s all-time record for career kills, finished the season with 416 kills and 307 digs. She was also named the Colonial Rivers Conference 25 and 3A East Region Player of the Year.

Joining Koon on the all-state first team was junior Nicole Mulligan (21 blocks, 98 aces, 177 kills), sophomore Cori Clifton (22o kills, 244 digs, 420 assists) and sophomore libero Jewel Walters (459 digs).

Lafayette sophomore Abby Oren rounded out five Bay Rivers District players voted to the first team, which is listed below.
