YORKTOWN — A new business that opened in Yorktown in April aims to add a new option for after-hours childcare.
Kids Night Out, founded by Seaford resident Kimberly Williams, is an after-hours play-care facility, and proud to add that it is the first such approved independent play-care facility in Virginia sanctioned by the Department of Education.
It sees itself as somewhere parents can bring their children in the evening or on weekends so they can take some time for themselves while the kids have dinner and enjoy crafts and entertainment based on a weekly theme.
“We decided to [start the business] because we’re a blended family with four children,” Williams explains. “We had a really hard time finding any evening care so we could have a date night or even some self-care time. We’d get home babysitters and it would be constant call-outs or some people just didn’t feel right, so we decided to do this.”
“We based everything around what we’re comfortable with for our children,” Williams continued.
Williams said the staff for the facility is CPR and first-aid trained and follows day-care standards of sanitation and health requirements.
The difference between a play-care facility and a daycare is that there are no requirements for any sort of medical documentation. In turn, the business is not required to provide annual reports to households.
“I love the activity, I love the people,” Williams said about the business’s location in the Historic Triangle. “I lived in Newport News, then we moved to Hampton and it was very disconnected. Here it feels like it really is a community. People care about one another and have their back. People say ‘hi’ and smile. We love that. We absolutely love it.”
Currently, the business accommodates children from 2 1/2 to 8 years old, with a goal of expanding to accommodate kids up to age 10. Bookings are all done online. The facility is open Wednesday to Friday from 5-11 p.m., Saturdays from 3-11 p.m., and Sundays from 1-9 p.m.
The business is located at 121 Grafton Station Lane, Suite E in Yorktown. For more information, visit its official website.
