STATEWIDE — College of William & Mary Law School graduate, Jessica D. Abner, was sworn in as the 63rd United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) on Monday, Oct. 12.
Abner, who has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 2009, was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. in August and unanimously confirmed by the Senate on Oct. 5.
“I am grateful to the President for my nomination and to Senators Warner and Kaine for their recommendation and endorsement,” Aber said. “After serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for more than a decade, I am honored to lead this tremendous district with its dedicated public servants and to help preserve public safety with our law enforcement and community partners. I look forward to working in support of the mission of the Department of Justice and toward the realization of fair and equal justice for all.”
In her time as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Abner served as the EDVA representative to the Richmond Division’s drug court as well as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division.
As U.S. Attorney, Aber will lead a staff of around 300 prosecutors and supervise the prosecution of all federal crimes and the litigation of all civil matters in which the United States has interest.
EDVA contains four divisions, Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk and Newport News and serves more than six million residents.
