YORK RIVER — On Tuesday, Sept. 7, passengers were rescued from a charter fishing boat after it hit a navigational buoy in the York River.
According to Matthew Rogers, Chief of Law Enforcement for the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, at approximately 3:05 p.m., Virginia Marine Police (VMP) received a call from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) regard the vessel, which struct a navigational buoy.
At that time, VMP dispatched vessels to the area in which the accident occurred. In a statement to WYDaily, Rogers said that the 31-foot-long fishing boat, named the Current Addiction, was taking on a lot of water.
VMP officers were able to safely rescue all eight people on board (which included six passengers, the boat’s captain and first mate).
While the cause of the accident is still under investigation, it has been determined that alcohol was not a factor.
At the time of publication, WYDaily has not yet received comment from the USCG.
