NORFOLK — Old Dominion University (ODU) will require all students, faculty and staff to wear masks indoors, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status. The school will also require that everyone on campus show proof of vaccination, according to a message from the University’s president, Dr. Brian O. Hemphill.
Hemphill cited the significant increase in the Delta variant around the country, as well as the latest recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as reasons to require masks in-doors as of Monday, Aug. 16.
Additionally, the University will require that all students, faculty and staff who will be on campus must upload proof of vaccination on the school’s wellness portal as of Sept. 1. Those claiming medical or religious exemption will have to submit exemption forms through the same portal.
ODU is among several institutions to reissue indoor universal mask requirements. The College of William & Mary issued a similar statement to its student body in the first week of August.
