Stock Up On School Supplies During Virginia’s Sales Tax Holiday Weekend

STATEWIDE — Virginia’s three-day sales tax holiday is just around the corner and parents can start shopping for school supplies.

The tax holiday weekend starts at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 6 and will run until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 8.

The sales tax holiday allows shoppers to purchase qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear and more without paying sales tax.

According to the Virginia Department of Taxation site, eligible items include qualified school supplies that are $20 or less per item and qualified clothing and footwear that are $100 or less per item.

It also includes hurricane and emergency preparedness products, such as portable generators ($1,000 or less per item), gas-powered chainsaws ($350 or less per item), chainsaw accessories ($60 or less per item) and other hurricane preparedness products ($60 or less per item).

Qualifying Energy Star™ or WaterSense™ products for noncommercial home or personal use that are $2,500 or less per item can also be purchased.
