STATEWIDE — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) will now include information on the number of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths by vaccination status on its statewide dashboard, according to a VDH press release.
The dashboard will also include data to track cases and hospitalizations of people who have been fully vaccinated.
“Over 99% of COVID-19 cases in Virginia have occurred in people who were not fully vaccinated. I applaud those who have chosen to protect themselves and the community by getting vaccinated, and we appreciate the work of all who are helping to vaccinate Virginians,” said State Health Commissioner M. Norman Oliver, M.D., M.A. “I continue to encourage everyone who is able to get vaccinated to do so.”
The press release also stated that receiving the vaccination is the most important strategy to ending the pandemic and getting vaccinated is a much safer way of developing immunity than catching the virus.
A person is considered fully vaccinated either two weeks following the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two weeks following the second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Everyone 12 years and older is currently eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
COVID-19 vaccines are free and accessible to all Virginians. Virginians seeking a vaccination opportunity can check in with their provider, pharmacy, or find and schedule appointments at vaccinate.virginia.gov, vaccinefinder.gov or by calling (877) 829-4682.
