NEWPORT NEWS — The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab), located at 12000 Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, will conduct a test of its tornado warning system, today, June 4, at 10:30 a.m.
According to a press release, the siren can be heard within a 1.5-mile radius of the lab. The sirens, which will be a wavering tone, will sound for up to three minutes. The tone that will be used is also known as “high-low-high” or 10-4-10.
The purpose of the monthly test is to alert JLab employees who are outdoors to immediately take shelter inside in the event of a tornado.
