Most Popular Baby Names in Virginia Released

STATEWIDE — The Social Security Administration has announced its list of the 2020 top five boys and girls names in Virginia.

The top five boys names were:

1. Liam
2. Noah
3. William
4. James
5. Oliver

The top five girls names were:

1. Charlotte
2. Olivia
3. Ava
4. Emma
5. Amelia

Last week, the agency announced the top names nationwide, with Liam and Olivia taking the top spots.

The Social Security Administration started compiling the annual baby names list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. The lists are created by looking through the applications for social security that parents file at the time of their child’s birth. The lists are then published based on locality, including U.S. territories.
